Steam play white list sonic mania3/15/2024 But it's Nintendo systems that have the reputation that all the big games are from Nintendo. SEGA had arguably a bigger lock on the Genesis library than Nintendo had on the SNES. There's a lot of them that were developed by other companies, but still. Here's something I noticed when looking over the games: almost 80% of them (34 out of 43, US version) were published by SEGA. I haven't tried the other controller, though. My only real complaint is the CRT filter's crap. Also, I forgot how choppy and flickery Strider is on MD.an impressive port, but you can really see the system struggling, with big pauses between set pieces, sprites going haywire etc. Sound delay may vary from game to game because I only noticed it in Strider's attack. It's not perfect, but if I can play Sonic on it just fine then I know I'm barely going to notice it in other games (and I haven't so far). I've only played for a few hours but that's my experience so far.Īs for lag, I bought a Retron5 back in the day and Sonic 2 was utterly unplayable on that thing to me. I've had absolutely no input problems in Sonic, Sonic 2, Strider and Castle of Illusion. They've just programmed the menu to check which button is pressed way too frequently, in my estimation. The inputs are consistent, but sensitive. Think I'm with Seafoam Gaming - the menu is very sensitive but I don't think it's the controller randomly registering double inputs. Would really love to hear from anyone else who has been able to do A/B comparisons to see if this is a problem with all or just some of the units. Which is funny because from what I've read apparently it's the same emulator running on the Wii, even though the SOC they used in the Genesis Mini is a clone of the one in the SNES Classic which is actually supposed to be more powerful than the Wii. So at least on my Genesis Mini unit there are really issues with lag/it registering multiple inputs. I cannot replicate this behavior on Wii Virtual Console the pieces still move very quickly, but they never keep sliding in either direction after I left go of the d-pad. While Columns has always been a little touchy, on the Genesis Mini if I hold down left or right for a moment and then let go the piece will often continue moving all the way to the edge of the well, even though I let go. Genesis Mini and there's definitely something wonky going on on the Genesis Mini. I also tested out Columns on Wii Virtual Console vs. Feels the same with audio turned down so it's not just audio lag (honestly I haven't really noticed any audio lag on the Genesis Mini).ĭoing the A/B comparison I noticed that the audio of Sonic 1 on Wii sounds way more clear and crisp than the Genesis Mini which sounds muffled. I wouldn't say it makes it totally unplayable, but definitely makes it difficult to enjoy, knowing how much better it could be. So! I just did an A/B comparison of Sonic 1 on the Genesis Mini and Wii Virtual Console going through the same setup and for whatever reason my Genesis Mini definitely has very noticeable input lag and I can confirm it's not latency introduced by the TV or anything because it feels completely normal on the Wii going through the same TV. So yeah, excellent system all around and i'll probably be grabbing an Asian one in the future, but after I buy a carrying case for this one. The input lag is pretty darn low too as I managed to do complex stuff in Shinobi III perfectly fine, and after that horrid Switch Genesis collection it feels amazing in comparison. There is that minor audio lag, but it's typical of emulation and it was still low enough for me to enjoy and not notice. So those issues are overblown and not worth worrying about if you're picking up this system. The double input exists in that game no differently than on real hardware and Tetris was made to be similar in that fashion. The menu's sensitive but that's pretty much it.Īnd yeah, while the Genesis wasn't a main system for me growing up, I did have one at my aunt's house with the six pack and Sonic 3D Blast, and I can confirm that Columns is literally that sensitive on the real thing. If you tap on the D-pad you can navigate the menu fine, but the menus are a bit picky as the amount of time you must hold the button until it speeds up the cursor is near zero, so people are confusing a long press for a double input. I've played this system for a lot of hours on Thursday and some on Friday and yeah, I don't buy the double input stuff one bit.
